Could be sometime in the past it rusted through and they just junk yarded something...

It has holes stamped in it all the way from front to back. Most of those didn't survive

The reostat is bad for the heater. Little box with all the wires coming out on heat box under hood under fan. Easy fix, hard to get to

Cat back is just where this starts. There was a cat from the factory starting in 1975. It may have been removed and replaced with a piece of " test" pipe. You would start your new exhaust from there....
