Hmmm, I’m surprised Van Pelt doesn’t have the parts. Next idea is to check with Chuck Mantiglia at Chuck’s Trucks in CT. IIRC he told me he has converted one of his own half ton trucks to the 3HD...

Your Parcel Delivery is not an F-3, it’s an F-5 based model. Its Budd type 5 lug x 8” pattern, dually rears, and most likely a 134” wheelbase are the give aways. The column shift was original on...

I was a bit surprised that it met reserve and sold. So often eBay listings are intended to test, or create, the market. Hopefully the truck doesn't disappear into a collection never to be seen...

Could be testing the market, or could be aiming at a world market. I recall a conversation I had with Rod where he mentioned a restored truck years ago that was purchased for serious money and taken...

"Rather rare"? I have the archive of known 51/52 F-2/F-3 Marmon Herrington conversions. There are five F-2s, five, CA, WY, UT, SD, and the eBay one in MI. This truck came from Rod Kruithoff's...

There were two 17.5" x 5.25" wheels, both look exactly alike to my eye. Budd numbers 70720 and 73240. These use 8R17.5" radials or 8-17.5" bias ply tires that are about 32" tall. This tire...

First I'll say welcome. Glad to see another F-3 being saved. Like Havi said there are alternatives to the 17" widow makers that came on our trucks. The alternative you do not want is continuing...

All F-3s from 48 to early 51 had 14" rear drums. That's why the trucks came with 17" wheels while F-2s had 12" drums and 16" wheels. Modern 16" wheels will not clear the 14" drums in most cases. ...

Not exactly. Besides length, 122" vs 114", which I know Havi wasn't suggesting as being the same, wall thickness and "C" channel depth are slightly greater on F-2/3s than on the F-1s. F-2/3 is 6.0"...

Another rear axle fix is to install custom 4.11s that are available from Chuck's Trucks in CT. Here's a discussion thread from the FTE site where another UK owner made this swap. As for widow maker...

If I may add to or modify Tim's point in favor of an F-2 over F-3. Any F-2 will be a good choice, I agree. The early F-3s, 1948 to early 1951, have 14" rear brake drums that necessitated the 17"...

Those stock 17" widow maker wheels should be replaced. Replacements are out there and will depend on whether you have the 14" drums supplied in early '51 or 12" supplied in late '51 and '52. The...

Add my welcome. This is a real good group, you'll get lots of good input here. Besides my Fords, I'm a closet Dodge (not Ram!) guy too. That B1PW126 project out in the barn calls me every so often.

Welcome. Truck frames were all 34" wide through 1972. So an F-100 or F-150 axle should be a bolt in swap. Something I've read sticks in my head that complicates the '72 swap. I don't recall what...

White wasn't one of the standard colors in '51 or '52. But could have been a fleet color. Late '51 and '52 data plates give the color codes for the trucks. An "SS" for special paint would signify...

Wayne pretty much said it, but I'll add a little. The early 14" F-3 rear brakes were changed to 12" Bendix in mid '51. Any '97 and earlier F-250 HD wheel will fit, as will more modern Dodge 3/4 ton...
