Cruise control?

I wished I was a little more m,echanically advanced... at times.

I wonder how easy would it be to add cruise control to an '80 that doesn't have it. Truck is a carburated 302 with ps and pb.

Would I be aaable to add crise control via a few found parts?

No clue that far back Tyl. Maybe somone else will know.

I have seen it done on an 89 ranger. The got the underhood parts, the "box" under the dash, and a tilt/cruise column and bolted it all in. The wires for it (under the dash) were already there.

Thats all I can remember from that one.

I know they make or made kits to ad CT to older ford trucks I'll looking around and see if I can dig up the link, I have thousands of ford related links socked away.

If you want to go aftermarket...audiovox makes one that runs off magnets on the drivshaft. They are like less than $100.

I was thinking of putting a hiden one on the 56 someday. A friend of mine has one on his 32 (???) streetrod truck.

The instructions that come with them suck, but you can do a google search and get good ones written by people who have installed them.

Yes Ty it is quite easy..basically plug and play

I even have a parts list for the retrofit.

The biggest challenge is the brake pedal swap.

I prefer the Bendix (OEM) system.

No unsightly parts to look at and the 80's full features

Plus I have all the Trouble-shooting info.

I posted the OEM bendix system above.

The hard things are:

1) Drilling hole in the firewall for the Huge grommet
2) Installing the 2 -piece speedo cable
3) Removing Non-cruise power brake pedal and installing the Cruise Pwr brake pedal

I am looking for my cruise parts list.

Someone can also go to the other site and

search the 73-79 forum the words " Cruise swap" in the message box with my user name

within the last year

It should bring up about 5 threads

Dennis, it is an 1980 Ford F100 Ranger XLT Flaresider. Blue on blue. Blueberry for now. Brittany, calls it blue b@#$%. She got soo fustrated, the truck did not want to allow her to lock the door shut.

Britz is the beneficiary of this truck, when I go. I would wish to build her a good solid, safe, reliable, practical and fun truck. She'll be the horse maseuse.

I'll check my book again for the correct booster number.

You could go with the 82 version that gives you the resume function.

Note: I have most of these parts in my garage.
