Stiff Steering

I just pulled my 77 out of the weeds today after I let it sit for 2 years. I would like to get it back on the road for the winter. But now the stearing is very stiff and hard to turn (wasnt like that when I parked it). So I greased every joint on the front end and made shure there was plenty of fluid in the pump but still no inprovments.

So could the pump have gone bad? or could it be somthing in the colum?
Any ideas would be appriciated.

Yea the fluid is full. It allmost feels like its in the colum because even the free play in the stearing wheel is tight.

There are 2 bearings for the column, 1 at the end outside the firewall and the other is inside the column at the top side. I'd suggest taking a look at the bearing on the lower end of the steering column where the shaft joins. It is probably all rusted up. If the freeplay is hard it is not going to be the pump or gearbox.

Rust in PA never .....

I had problems with that lower bearing before. I also had other stuff seize up from sitting.

Good luck
