Won't happen- mostly because of the Ford Family. Chrysler, however, should be in play by the end of the year (I'm guessing). Nissan's the most likely buyer.

dunno to be honest with you.

i doubt that chrysler will join in, i cant remember if they are partnered with or owned by mercedes but, the diesel engines that are in the new jeeps are mercedes 5 cyl.s

it would be kinda cool to see gm-ford merge. because id like to see a powerstroke in a gm pickup and a allison behind a ford engine. wouldnt be half bad to be honest with you.

gm owns nissan, so if nissan bought ford it would still be bought out by gm

isnt the duracrap (duramax) a mitsubishi or nissan engine?

DMAX is a joint-venture between Izuzu and General Motors, located in Moraine, Ohio. They currently produce an inline-6 (yep, that's right) and two different 6.6L V8's. Izuzu designed the engine family, GM builds it, and they share in the profits. Izuzu is an independent entity, and is currently one of the worlds largest suppliers of medium/HD diesel engines.

It's kinda complicated.

The 1st DMAX was a joint venture but GM owned 8% of Isuzu.

When GM sold off its shares, making Isuzu independent, they retained the DMAX name.

So now there can be DMAX motors that have NOTHING to do with Isuzu.....specifically the upcoming 4.5L DMAX.

"GM powertrain spokesperson Tom Reid tells PickupTruck.com that even though it shares the Duramax name with the older 6.6-liter engine - which has been engineered and produced in partnership with Isuzu Motors - the new diesel is 100% designed by GM and will be built without Isuzu's involvement."

gm owns nissan, HUH?? That's totally false! so if nissan bought ford it would still be bought out by gm.
Daimler sold 81% of Chrysler to the private investment firm Cerberus, retaining 19% for itself.

GM does not own Nissan, never has, never will.

Nissan was facing bankruptcy in 1999, so French automaker Renault stepped in, buying 33% of the company. By Japanese Corporate law, this gives Renault controlling interest.

Nissan recently made a deal with Cerberus to make small car for them, in turn, the next generation of the Titan pickup will be made by Dodge, with the present Titan powertrain intact, and using unique sheetmetal.

DMAX is the name of the joint venture Corporation, which still operates (very much so). "Duramax" is a GM-owned trademark name. They actually aren't related. Izuzu makes a good portion of it's revenue doing contract work for other manufacturers, including GM.

The whole venture was independent of any stake GM might have had in Izuzu at the time.

Good info and I erroneously interchange Duramax with Dmax because I'm lazy.

The original statement/questions by Supercab and Frank, however, were that Duramax is made by Isuzu which was what I relpied to basically saying "not necessarily".

Even if you meant Isuzu, you'd still be mistaken.......after owning as much as 49% of Isuzu, GM sold off all interest a few years back leaving 0.
