Probably should post this in the general section but it's about my F-150 so I'm posting it here.

With the rising fuel prices and the low mpg of my truck I've been debating on trading in the F-150 on a Ranger. The fuel cost aren't killing me but they're are cutting into the budget. If they continue to rise like they say they're going to it will pinch a little more.

I've been looking at 4x4 Rangers and like a few FX4's that I've seen. They do a little better than my truck on mpg's but It wouldn't be drastic like going to a car (which is out of the question).

So what would you do?

What tuner are you looking at?

I've heard stories of people having problems with the computer if the battery gets drained (or something like that).

I voted "other", save up $3,000 and buy an Escort like Erica's. She's turning about 35-36MPG. Keep your truck for truck stuff...and the car for when you feel like easing-up on the gas a bit. YelloThumbUp

You're truck is too sweet to get rid of! :D

superchips is the only one that will do a 08, and i have a 08. im still deciding on my options. i have seen many tuners on gas burners and superchips seem to have ford figured out. superchips made a awesome chip back when the lightning was still around and it was pretty awesome.

I'll say the same thing I said in Storm's thread... You'll take a hit of a couple thousand bucks on selling a pickup in a time like this... That couple thousand dollars can buy A LOT of gas... It'll seem like you're doing better since you're getting better mileage but you'll still be in debt on the deal for a while before recouping your money and starting to save some on top.

give me the 150 and buy a Ranger!! i loved mine 'till i discoverd they don't float. i assumed floatation was standard on the Rangers.

Financially, you wouldn't truly gain enough to justify switching trucks, but picking up an econobeater to run in it's place is much more financially viable, and you get to keep the truck as well!

Yep- it'll cost a lot more than "a few thousand" to try to climb out of the pickup right now. If need be, grab a little econo-beater and keep the truck.

Looks like everyone thinks I should keep the F-150. Kinda leaning that way anyway. As far as the econobeater I don't think I would do that either. What I would save in gas I would probably pay in insurance.

Maybe I'll try the tuner or something. Try to drive it a little less if I can and make sure I don't have my foot in it.

Thanks for everyones opinion.

I vote keep the F-150. Since the wife is carpooling you could always use one of her cars a few days a week. The other option would be to get rid of your wife's car and get a cheaper vehicle for you to drive to and from work. Unless you have reasons other than gas prices to get rid of your truck, I think you should keep it.

The wife might be to attached to the truck to let you get rid of it.smiliecrybaby
