I saw your post on the other site and I was curious if you know why the difference in timing gears on 48/49 trucks.
"48-6306-A .. Crankshaft Gear-22 left hand helical teeth-Use with camshaft gear having right hand helical teeth."
I'm guessing it was a carryover from the 59's that would have put the thrust against the timing gear cover. With the new 8BA it was necessary to pull the gear away from the cover. Am I in the right ball park?
I ran into this when I replaced the gear on my 51 merc engine that's in my 48 pickup. Caught it before I ordered one, but was surprised at the difference.
