Need to remove shift lever.

Have a 49 F1

If I unscrew the Shift lever retainer and pull out the lever will I
be able to get it back in without to much trouble?
I'm trying to work on the wires under the dash and that stick
is really in the way. Had a 33 coupe years ago and that one came right out
and went back easily. Don't know if this is the same.
Any help is appreciated
John

Yes, it's just a single stub. Make sure you put the trans in neutral before you lift it up - makes it easier to hit the hole later.

Be careful you don't lose the locating pin (1/4" x 5/8") in the driver's side of the tower. It locates the shifter.

Got to love these old trucks! Bet you can't remove the shifter on a newer model just to do some wiring under the dash. I even bet you wouldn't be doing any wiring under the dash of a newer model truck.

Yea it does sound funny. I've been fighting that stick for a while.
I went to 12 volt so put new gauges in and all the rest.
So I've been under there a lot. Well last week I went to duck under
there and hit my mouth on the ball on the shifter.
Thought for sure I lost a couple teeth. That's when I decided I
need to get that stick out of the way till I'm done under there.
Well thanks for listening, and thanks for the help.

Don't know if it is too late yet but be veeeeery careful removing and replacing the locator pin. I dropped mine down into the tranny when I was reinstalling it following a rebuild. Fortunately I had not filled it with fluid yet and I was able to fish it out through the drain hole.

don't play well w others
Not related to the shifter, just a though from my mistake...

Make sure to put a resistor on the gas guage, or it will burn up first time you turn on the key
