I found this truck on another F150 forum, seen it was a local truck (within 2 hours) and pm'd the guy. The wife and I met up with him, I test drove it, walked around it, and asked all the important questions like about spark plugs and coils which he has changed!

Here are the pics he had in the ad:

The seller was a great guy and even delivered the truck to me. He towed it with his replacement truck:

When I got it home, I was able to vacuum it, and wipe down with lemon cleaner on the interior. Then put my brand new F150 OEM slush mats in her, and put my Hellas behind the grille

Your truck would sell within days!! usually to the first person who comes by to see it. You have to act fast when you see trucks of this condition. The mods were done tastefully and do not take away from the factory look. As far as I'm concerned, that's a brand new truck. Again, excellent find!

it plugs into the OBD-II plug. It comes with a suction cup and all. I basically have the wire hidden udner the dash, behind the A-Pillar plastic, and mounted right in the top corner of the windshield. The only wire visible is the 1" protruding from the unit to where it goes in behind the A-Pillar.

This is like a scan-gauge, only better and cheaper IMO. It reads and clears codes too.

Ok guys, I contacted Ultra-Gauge asking them to become a vendor on the forum. They liked the idea, but said they would not have the time/resources to keep up with it. They gave me permission to run them as a vendor but with some direction from Tom, we felt it was best just to create a thread/topic for you guys to come to with any questions you might have about the Ultra-Gauge instead of making them a vendor. Provided below are resources as well to get you the help you may need. I will try within my means to help you, and if I cannot, I will find you the help.

What is the Ultra-Gauge?

Many of you may read the title and wonder what an Ultra-Gauge is. The UG (What we will call it for short) is a scan tool for any vehicle with OBD-II diagnostics. It mounts in your car/truck and plugs into the OBD-II port under the dash. It actively scans the vehicle using the same sensors that the computer reads and displays that information on the LCD screen.

The UG has a total of 74 Gauges it can display. However, for the Ford Ranger, these are limited due to the sensors our trucks have. They are listed below. These gauges will displayed 6 per page on a total of three pages. So basically, you have the option of choosing up to 18 gauges to display. The pages on the UG can be set to Auto-Advance to "X" number of seconds or you can have it to a fixed screen.

One powerful tool of the Ultra-Gauge is its capabilities to Read and Clear Trouble Codes!!! It is one of the cheapest OBD-II diagnostic tools on the market. You will easily pay more than $100 for one at Advance Auto or AutoZone.

Also, the UG has Max and Min alarms that can be set for each gauge. So say if you have the engine temp max gauge at 205*F like me, and it hits that threshold, it will make an alarm. Alarmas can be suspended or turned off. Also I will provide my alarm setting tonight.

WHAT DOES THE ULTRA-GAUGE LOOK LIKE?

the UG is a nice thin compact unit. There are three buttons on the back (Menu, Up, Down) It is smaller than a cell phone. It has a nice crisp LCD blue display.

HOW DOES THE ULTRA-GAUGE MOUNT?

The UG mounts using a suction cup mount with a bendable "arm" that connects to the unit. UG.com recommends putting it in lower-left corner of window right above dash. However, for the Ford Ranger, I personally recommend placing it as far top-left of the window as possible. It will require some bending of the mounting arm into a squished "S" shape, but it can be done.

(This was before hiding the wire)

I also recommend Hiding the wire behind the A-Pillar Plastic.

WHAT COMES IN THE BOX?

WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE ULTRA-GAUGE?

WHAT GAUGES ARE DISPLAYED?

Here are the Gauges for the Ranger (give or take)

* Open/Closed Loop Emissions Status
* Percent Engine Load
* Engine coolant temperature
* Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 1
* Long Term Fuel Trim Bank 1
* Short Term Fuel Trim Bank 2
* Long Term Fuel Trim Bank 2
* RPM
* MPH
* Ignition Timing Advance
* Intake Air Temperature
* Mass Air Flow Sensor output in grams/sec
* Absolute Throttle Position Percentage
* Bank 1 Oxygen Sensor 1 Voltage
* Bank 1 Oxygen Sensor 2 Voltage
* Bank 2 Oxygen Sensor 1 Voltage
* Bank 2 Oxygen Sensor 2 Voltage
* Distance traveled with Check Engine Light on
* Mass Air Flow 2, Calibrated/Calculated
* Instantaneous Miles Per Gallon (MPG)
* Average Miles Per Gallon (MPG)
* Average Miles Per Hour (MPH)
* Average Gallon Per Hour (GPH) - general
* Run Time - general
* Distance - general
* Fuel Used - general
* Intantaneous Gallons Per Hour (GPH)
* Fuel Tank Gallons Remaining
* Distance to Empty(DTE)
* Time to Empty (TTE)
* Average MPH - trip
* Average MPG - trip
* Fuel Used Gallons- trip
* Average Gallon Per Hour (GPH) - trip
* Run Time -trip
* Distance - trip
* Oil Distance
* Service Distance
* UltraGauge Temperature

Like mentioned above, the Gauges are displayed on three pages in "slots." Each slot is assigned a letter like so:

LAYOUT.jpg

My layout is (I will fill out tonight, I cant remember them all):

  • A-MPH
  • B-RPM
  • C-ENGINE COOLANT TEMP.
  • D-INTAKE AIR TEMP
  • E-AVG MPH
  • F-Distance till empty
  • G-Inst. MPG
  • H-AVG. MPH
  • I-INST Gal./HR
  • J-AVG Gal./HR
  • K-
  • L-Time till empty
  • M-Service Oil
  • N-Service Distance (I use to keep track of tire rotation)
  • O-
  • P-
  • Q-
  • R-

WHAT KIND OF CALIBRATION IS INVOLVED?

With the Ford Ranger, there is no fuel sensor (to my knowledge). We have a float attached to a sending unit that measures based on height of fuel in the tank. SOOOOO the UG has to be calibrated. You have two calibrations you can perform. One is distance and the other MPGs.

This should give you a basic understanding of the Ultra-Gauge. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or post in this thread.

Also here are some other thread of interest within FRF:

the only thing i wish it done was for the cord to detach from the unit like a scangauge, but it doesnt.

on my 04 F150, it can have 42 gauges but can only display 18 at a time (3 screens, 6 gauges per screen). its all vehicle dependant

I still love your truck Scott. :)

The only reason I have yet to pick up an Ultragauge myself is because of the lack of the transmission temperature monitoring. If the Ultragauge was able to access information on the transmission, I would have been all over it a long time ago.

Update!

Finally had weather to wash the truck in! last weekend!!

2012-02-17_18-22-20_391.jpg

it was getting dark. then got up the next day and hit the truck with my polisher! made my paint shine with my Dual Action Meguiar's Polisher.

395419_3337793169132_1397700026_3363232_186413668_n.jpg

G110V1 Dual Action Polisher
M105 (Fine Cut Compound) on 6 1/2" polishing pad
M205 (Ultra Finishing Polish) on 6 1/2" finishing pad
Hand waxed with Meg's NXT 2.0 Paste Synwax

Removed every swirl there was in the hood leaving a brilliant shine. Gonna hit the rest of the truck when the weather clears back up (it snowed the next day.) ill use the same process, BUT after the M105 and M205, ill hit it with #7 (Show car glaze pure polish, and then Hi-Tech Yellow Wax with the polisher, THEN hand wax with the NXT to seal it best
