Fire in A/C Evaporator Housing '96 Bronco

Just had a fire start in the A/C evaporator shroud. By the time I got the fire extinguisher it had burned away the shroud as well as the blower motor housing. Happened while driving - no fuses blew. Only thing in the shroud is the blower motor resistor. Can this cause the fire?

Yes it can and it usually causes a fire because of leaves built up in there laying against the resistor. Change housing since melted, change resistor, and make sure your wiring isn't melted. Repair as necessary.
