I decided to install a eletric water pump, and ran into a problem. The water pump is sitting on the crank pulley. The motor is out of a 85 mercury cougar with a 302. There crank pulley is 7.25 inch O.D. and it uses 3 belts. I am now looking at changing all the brackets over to the mustang style, but not 100% sure if that is really what i need. I have been looking and seen the mustang undrive pulleys are smaller and run one belt. The power steering pump I have now is a V-belt and not a serpatine. Can I just change out the pulley or do I have to get a hole new pump? It would be nice if I can jjust change out that pulley and the bracket. If anyone has ran an eletric water pump can you send me pictures of what it looks like and how you did this.
