No Heat...hope it's it not a major job!

I have a 1997 F150...I turned my heater on yesterday, and it blew cold air...engiine temp was fine, but no hot air...not even out of the defrosters...cold air. Any ideas on where to start?? Thank you in advance!!

Do both hoses that go to the heater feel warm/hot?

Well, if they're both warm, the coolant is circulating and that leaves the blend door which is nothing but a gate that (depending on the control settings, temp/AC/Heat) directs which way the airflow travels. It may be a vacuum problem (leak) or something similar.

I checked the hoses...they were hot. I noticed that when I turn the temp setting to cold, the air blowing out of the vent is very forceful...but when I switch it to the hot, it cuts the airflow in half. I got it to come out luke warm...but not blowing warm air...I took the cover off, and I see the actuator...there is a plug to it from a wire harness...I can hear it turning, but the air doesn't get hot, just luke warm. Any thoughts?? Thank you again for your help!!

One of your hoses should be noticably hotter than the other one. If they both feel about the same, you may back to back flush the heater core as it may be clogged partially.

The blend door can get stripped internally where the actuator goes into the door. That will cause incomplete opening/closing of the door. We've been replacing a few of the plenum boxes because of that (the doors aren't serviced separately). Make sure that the actuator isn't making a "clicking" noise, that can mean a stripped gear internally in the actuator itself.

lil_dq...the one hose is hotter then the other, noticed that last night when I checked it. blacksnapon...I don't hear a clicking noise....I just hear the gear moving, like a very faint "whir" noise...but like I said, the air flow on the hot setting is half of the airflow on the cold setting.

yep you are about to embark on a journey of one of the worst things you could do to these trucks!

Not to make it sound bad or anything! LOL
