Tore apart the front end on the 72 today chasin a leak. Had a few questions for any of ya that have torn into these front ends. The grease in the outter hub was runny so oils gettin into it. The lube in the knuckle was runnier than the hub but thicker than 90wt
1. What kind of lube does the knuckle need oil or grease?
2. Is there a seal in the spindle that seals off the knuckle from the hub?

1.The manual says 90wt. same in the Diff. I''ve always mixed 50/50 STP/90 wt gear oil for the closed knuckles.
2. The dana 44 has inner axles seals and when there bad gear oil leaks from the Diff. passed the seals flowing into the axle tubes that should be dry.. You have to pull the ring gear out to install the seals. You can made a seal installer tool if you handy.. 8$ Bucks 4 seals 45 + for a installer.. 3
3. Lock hubs drive for about 5 miles every 1000 miles or 3 months
That's my 2cents
