No 460 was in a Mustang...and why not use a truck 460 with a NP435/T18/T19? Nothing against cars, but I don't think there's a difference between car and truck 460's...and it'll be easier finding a 460/4spd combo from a truck, I'd imagine.

460 not gunna be in a mustang, you'll have to look for lincolns which will likely be smogged more than a truck 460. also wont be mated to a 4 speed

X2 what ben said truck 460 NP435

Any 4 big block 4 speed from a car will be at most a FE bolt pattern

460:

1968/78 Lincoln & Continental Mark III, IV & V / 1972/78 Thunderbird / 1973/78 LTD/Mercury Marquis / Torino/Montego.

No 460's in Passenger Cars after 1978.

1973/79 F100/350 / 1975/96 Econoline / 1983/96 F250/350 & F(Super Duty).

First year for 460 w/4WD & with a manual transmission: 1983.

No 460 ever came w/a manual trans prior to 1983, including Passenger Cars.

^^^Didn't know that about the 'no manual trans behind the 460 til '83'. Thanks for the tip Bill. Regardless, to the OP, a 460/NP435 is still a very popular swap.

i ment 460 engine out of anything really, and a 4 speed from a car i just don't want a granny gear in a hot rod, and a short throw

You will not find a 4 speed from a car that has a 460 bellhouse pattern unless you can find yourself a wrecked Boss mustang that had a 429 in it AND a 4 speed. I dont know production numbers but i can assure you you wont

And that thing would cost mid 5-figures, even in wrecked condition.

damn, how about a 5 speed? i don't know alot about big blocks ive been around small blocks my whole life tho hah, is there any big block combo with a 4-5 speed thats relatively cheap? and that doesn't have all that environment ********

the first 5 speed offered with a big block bellhouse pattern would be a ZF in gen 8's. And it is a MUCH shorter throw than an NP435.

So you would need a non smog, carbed 460 mated to a gen 8-9 ZF.

You might consider looking at an FE motor, a 390/ NP435 4 speed combo is relativly easy to find.

depends on the year of the motor, smog vs power and whatnot. keep in mind its not the end of the world to de smoga motor

A lot less than you'd think. A mid-sized V6 modern car puts out more HP than the older big blocks did, with very few exceptions.

Agreed...outside of the 'specialty cars' I wanna say peak number on a 460 was 365hp pre-73 and 208-275 from 73 on...but those numbers can be misleading due to the change in how hp was formulated.

So I'll make my mandated 400 plug here for the 460 guys...as you can see, the 460 was not necessarily a barn burner and the 400 was rated at 210 hp at lower rpm.

Uh...

1969/70 Galaxie/LTD/Mercury Marquis / Torino/Montego & P/C's (Police Cruisers) with 429's were available with the Ford 4 speed top loader.

Ford 4 speed ID numbers: Galaxie/LTD/Marquis & P/C's: RUG-V1 / Torino/Montego: RUG-AU, RUG-AU-1
