Shorter Steering Column

Anyone ever try to shorten the steering column? I'm 6'2'', with long arms. The steering wheel is to close to drive comfortable. I'm thinking it wouldn't be to hard to pull the whole thing, and cut about 3-4 inches off, moving the wheel closer to the dash. I think you'd just have to cut the column and shaft equally, probably out of the middle of each, then weld the ends back on. Might be a pain in the butt, but worth it in the long run. Ideas?

Try a different sterring wheel, something a little smaller it actually works for someone taller, it worked good on my old 71 Gm (gasp) 4x4 I used to own, it's a lot cheaper and a whole lot less work. :hammer:

I've got a steering wheel off of an 83 Bronco, a little smaller but real similar. I'm gonna put it on, but I think I'm still gonna try and cut it down a couple of inches.
