Filler Up??

Got back last night from Dallas with the new to me 2007 F250 4X4 with the 5.4. Even with 115K the truck looks, runs, and drives like a brand new one. Only problem was when I went to filler up after leaving the dealership. I could pee into the gas tank faster than I could pump gas into it. Seemed to take FOREVER to fuel. The pump would shut off after just a few seconds of pumping. When it's 44 degrees it's one thing, but the last fill up it was 10 degrees outside and the wind was howling and that was NO FUN.

I did notice the two vent slits (for lack of a better term) seemed about the size of a pinhead, so this morning I took a screwdriver and then a punch and opened them up some more...it helped some, but the pump still shuts off after a few seconds. The filler pipe going to the tank seems awful small too. Makes me wonder how they had time to put 115 K on the truck...seems half their time would have been spent letting the gas dribble and pee in the tank.

Anybody have the answer or suggestions? (This was not just at one station, but at four different ones)

I've noticed it going faster or slower with the price of gas. When the price is high, the price goes much faster than the flow. When fuel was cheaper, the flow was much faster than the price.

is it body lifted? that could screw with the fill tube

I've had plenty of trucks with flat beds that could be "touchy" when filling up....and the 73-87 Chevy pickups could be "challenging" sometimes, but this SOB has me kinda baffled. And, believe me, I tried everything possible with the nozzle...in all the way, almost out, sideways, upside down, etc. I wouldn't be so perplexed if it was a diesel, but she's a gas burner.......

I really don't know if it's relevant or not...but when I replaced the filler tube in my '98 Escort, it had a little plastic "flap" at the bottom of the tube- presumably to act as a one-way valve and let gas go into the tank, but not back out the filler tube.

If it somehow got obstructed or off it's hinge, it would probably slow down the filling a lot.
