Power door locks

On the 95 Mustang we just got neither of the power door lock buttons work(driver or passenger). I don't think it's the fuse because it's the same fuse that runs the trunk release and that still works. Any ideas?

It seems odd that both door lock bottons arn't working. If you've got the door interior pulled out, you might try hooking up a voltmeter to a wire connected to the door lock button to see if power's even getting that far. Sounds like there's a short somewhere past the fusebox where the power branches off to the two doors.

yeah, short of pulling off the panel to see if power and ground are going to the right place, the only other place that commonly is a problem area, is the bellows between the door and body. The wires can break in there.

pulled the panel on both doors where the switch is and they are plugged in and the wires look okay as far as I can see them but they disappear into the door pretty quickly. I guess I'll have to get a voltmeter and see if the switches are getting power and go from there.

not really sure if I'm using the meter right. [confused] If I hook it up to the drivers side door switch and hit the button the needle on the meter will move but on the passenger side when I hit the switch it does nothing.

So does this mean I have a short somewhere in between the drivers side and passenger side? If that's the case shouldn't the drivers side still work or is it a complete circuit and will only work if everything is right?

Got it fixed!!! :nana:

Seems one of the previous owners must have had an alarm,keyless entry,remote start on it and removed it when they got rid of the car. Found some wires that didn't go anywhere and followed them to where they were spliced in. They were spliced into the wires for the power locks. I guess when they removed it they just cut the wires and didn't bother to reattach anything.

I don't know what they were thinking. They cut the wires to remove whatever feature they added taped them up all nice and neat and placed them up into the dash to hide them. I guess they didn't think that the wires needed to be reconnected so the locks would work. [confused]

Or they were coming back to steal it since the locks didn't work. :)

the locks still worked, you just had to actually push them down or pull them up manually. It was just the switches that didn't work. YelloThumbUp
